During a successful twenty-five year career as an illustrator and art director for an Aerospace company in Connecticut, Pat DeSantis' paintings for major NASA space programs have appeared in various national and international publications and encyclopedias. Pat left the corporate world behind to pursue his desire to paint. Moving to coastal Kennebunkport Maine, Pat and his wife
Margaret live in an old Victorian home with an adjoining rustic carriage house that contains his gallery and studio. Aside from painting, Pat also enjoys teaching at the Heartwood College of Art.
Creating his own unique style, Pat uses acrylic paints on roughly gessoed masonite panels to give his paintings a heavy texture which he incorporates into his designs. Pat creates designs that are bold, yet whimsical, using a palette of warm rich earth tones and muted primary colors. A design element that he sees in nature or perhaps an image that just forms in his imagination can trigger the start of a new design. While his subject matter ranges from Americana to the garden, from angels to cats, Pat especially enjoys painting patriotic and nautical themes.
Pat's paintings and prints, both Folk Art and
Fine Art, appear in art collections in the United States as well
as Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. His designs are also
sought for use on licensed products such as puzzles, flags,
greeting cards, wallpaper and various types of giftware.
